How to Rely on God
Often life is full of obstacles that are sometimes beyond our control. We desperately try to handle situations by using our influence and the possible influence of others to control whatever conflicts us. Despite many tries nothing seems to work. We then turn to the only source that can help, God.
Jesus is the intermediary between men and God. We depend on God for our very existence (Psalm 9:9). Yet on a day-to-day basis, we often find it difficult to rely on God because we try to depend on our own strength or on worldly wisdom. So how can we depend on God in a practical way?
Prayer: We exhibit our faith to God in prayer. We give Him praise and thanks for all that He has done and continues to do in our lives. Your prayer should show a total dependence on God.
When we give things over to God to handle, through prayer, we are saying we trust—depend on—Him (1 Peter 5:7). When we resist worry and instead trust that God will be faithful to His promises, we depend on him.
Read, study, and obey the Bible: To understand God’s word one must take the time to truly read and study God’s word. Utilize resources and ask questions for a better understanding of what God desires. This is the only way to truly have a relationship with Him. (2 Timothy 3:16–17). We are seeking to know Him and what He says so that we can depend on Him.
