Don't Ask God Why

Image
There are some people who have been hurt by God. They feel slighted by the Almighty. They know of God’s power and yet He did not stop the tragedy. They have heard of God’s sovereignty, so if God is truly all powerful and loving, then why did He not prevent the outcome? I am not sure if there is a worse feeling than feeling let down by God. So how does a believer respond when you want to love and follow God, but you feel hurt by Him? How do you pray and trust a God who has let you down, so it seems? Well, there is hope for hurting hearts. One of the most difficult lessons a Christ follower can learn is that we do not ask God why…instead, we ask God what and how. What is God Allowing? I think one of the first steps to accepting God’s will in difficult and painful situations is to understand that God is in fact working in your life. It may seem that He is silent. It may even seem that He is cruel, but be assured, His plan is unfolding. The Bible assures us of God’s plans for His c...

Why are we Invisible?

Image
Why are we invisible? Is it because we are quiet and keep to ourselves? Is it because we lack friends and are unlikeable? Is it because we don’t speak out enough? Could it be that we talk too much? There seems to be a reason why we are invisible however, we can’t seem to figure it out. Now it is important to note when I talk about being invisible this is not in the literal sense. It is much deeper than that. It goes into the very essence of who we are as black men and how we are perceived, portrayed, and judged. Our very being is given a value determined to be less than based on a perpetual threat that exists. As black men, we are viewed as beasts. We are not seen as humans with souls. We are often viewed as being incapable of insightful thought and feeling. In addition, it is said we don’t offer anything of value, we are considered angry, and hostile. As a result, people tend to look beyond us. We are looked upon as expendable. Why are we disregarded so easily? Why...

What is Freedom?

Image
What is Freedom? (Common Definition) We often think of freedom as having the ability to do what you want. We also think we have the ability to determine what is right or wrong. Freedom in the abstract is just that. In this sense, freedom is void of doing what is right. Idea of Freedom In society we march under the mantra of freedom of not being told what to do however, this has a consequential effect. This notion of freedom has led to addictions. Society has become slaves to pornography, sex, drugs, alcohol, and a general sense of self control. The incapacity to live without things. We lack the ability to commit therefore leading to divorce of marriage and church. Freedom is not True Freedom Freedom masquerades as Liberty, but underneath is truly bondage. What is the true definition of Freedom? The capacity to obey God. True Fruits of Freedom True freedom comes from the increasing desire to do right. True freedom brings greater self control, the ability to moderate one’s...

When Your Country Doesn't Love You

Image
Anyone that has experienced the heartache of being in a dysfunctional relationship understands the pain that is generated from giving someone your all, only to have that person openly reject it and you in such a way that leaves mental and emotional scarring. This mental and emotional trauma often gives way to anger, hostility, and disdain for the individual that caused the pain. It also lessens the chance of the person scorned of entering and sustaining in type of healthy relationship moving forward. The person that caused the trauma now has to live with the fact that they have created a new person. One that will lack compassion and empathy. One that will now look upon every person with the side eye and will never give anyone the benefit of the doubt. Only until they allow themselves to open their hearts again and receive the love and compassion they had once sought; will they be able to heal. This dysfunctional relationship began with our arrival to our first date. We were n...
